The terms 'colon' and 'large intestine' are used interchangeably and include everything from the cecum to the anus. You can think of the colon as a flexible tube or pipe, approximately five to six feet long and 2 ½-3 inches in diameter, extending from the cecum where it joins the small intestine, up and across the abdominal cavity and down the left side of the body where it reaches the sigmoid and rectum. A healthy colon has a uniform size, shape and tone.

The large intestine has little or no digestive function. The colon’s job is to compact the chime, absorb water and essential vitamins from the foods we eat, receive B-vitamins that are produced by healthy intestinal bacteria and expel toxins and waste from our body. When the colon is not functioning properly it can lead to poor digestion and a toxic colon. To maintain optimum health one should cleanse the body. Any cleansing program should begin in the colon where the final digestion of food takes place. Colon hydro therapy is a very effective way to cleanse the colon.
Everyone on this earth is exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals in their everyday lives. These toxins and chemicals are in our air, our water, our food and the pharmaceutical drugs we use. Additionally, we eat more refined sugar, enriched flour and processed foods than ever before. And many of us repeatedly ingest a variety of stimulants and sedatives. Research proves our bodies are not capable of eliminating all the toxins and chemicals we inhale and ingest on a daily basis. They accumulate in our cells (particularly fat cells), tissues, blood and organs (heart, colon, liver, brain) and will remain in the body unless we flush out this toxic build up. This build-up could ultimately cause health problems. We consume large amounts of mucous producing foods - breads, meats, dairy products - which cause an excessive amount of mucous build up in our system. This build-up creates a sticky, glue-like substance that coats the walls of the colon and forms a hard rubbery crust which hinders the colon’s ability to absorb vital nutrients. Our bodies cannot eliminate these layers of hardened mucous on their own. Unless the colon is cleansed, these hardened mucous layers are carried in our colon for the length of a person’s life. Furthermore, poor digestion can lead to autointoxication.
Autointoxication or self-poisoning is a process in which you are poisoned by substances produced by your own body because of poor digestion and /or incomplete or too few bowel movements. Undigested food ferments and putrefies when remaining in the colon longer than a day. When this fermented waste combines with the body’s own bile acids from the liver, the large intestine becomes toxic and the carcinogens may develop into colon or rectal cancers. Dr. Bernard Jensen, PH.D stated (pioneer in holistic health); “Every tissue is fed by the blood, which is supplied by the intestinal system. When the intestines are dirty, the blood is dirty and so are the organs and tissues. It is the intestinal system that has to be cared for first before any effective healing can take place.” Every cell of our body is affected by self-poisoning. When the toxins collect in the nervous system, we feel irritable and depressed. We feel weak if they back up into the heart, bloated if they reach the stomach and have bad breath if they reach our lungs. If the poisons try to escape through our skin, rashes and blotches develop, or we look pale and our skin appears wrinkly. If the toxins make it to the glands, we feel fatigued, lethargic, our sex drive may decrease and we appear to look much older than our actual age.
If you experience any of the following symptoms or conditions, you may be experiencing autointoxication and may want to consider colon hydrotherapy also known as a colonic or colon irrigation.
- Frequent constipation or diarrhea
- Frequent heart burn, GERD or acid reflux
- Poor elimination and irregular bowel movements
- Frequent congestion, sinus problems, viruses and colds
- Frequent Intestinal disorders and flatulence or gas
- Frequent headaches
- General aches and pains that migrate from one place to another
- Lower back pain
- Lowered immune system or lowered resistance to infections
- Needing to sleep for long periods of time
- Low tolerance to fatty foods
- Pain in your liver and/or gall bladder
- Frequent fatigue and low energy
- Excess weight
- Frequent yeast or candida infections
- Skin problems, rashes, acne, eczema and boils
- Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), sore breasts and vaginal infections
- Bloating
- Blood pressure extremes
- Depression
- Diverticulosis
- Tension
Colon hydrotherapy is not a cure-all, but it can be a valuable treatment for a wide variety of different conditions and common health complaints.
If you have severe symptoms or any serious disorders, seek the attention of a competent health care provider. The above list is only meant to indicate some of the symptoms of autointoxication. Anyone who has been on a Standard American Diet for more than two years would benefit from colon hydrotherapy.
